The act replaces the Co-operative Societies Act of 1962 and provides for the appointment of a Commissioner for Co-operative Development; to supervise the formation, registration and management of co-operatives and to encourage co-operative development. The management and administration of co-operatives, as well as the powers of the Commissioner are outlined, among other provisions.

The act specifies the powers of the Minister to: impose and prescribe conditions for the regulation of fishing; register boats employed in fishing; determine times and seasons for fishing of specific fish species; determine necessary fees to be paid; and the different prohibitions applicable to import, transfer, and sale of live fishes, among others. The act provides for the more effectual regulation, control, protection and improvement of fish and fishing in Botswana.

The statutory instrument is based on the town and country planning act of 1977. The order designates planning areas, and specifies the authority to which functions of the board to grant permission for development are transferred.

The order declares areas of land that are categorized as planning areas. It makes provisions for access to copies of relevant maps for applicants seeking permission for any development in planning areas.

The order applies to all planning areas. The order makes clarifications on the types and classes of development that are subject to permission from necessary authorities. It also specifies conditions and limitations guiding all development classes. It outlines the application procedure for planning permissions.

The act covers: the soils, waters, plant life and vegetation, vegetable products of the soil, animal life and fauna of Botswana (including animals, birds, reptiles, fishes, and insects), and other categories as decided by the authorities. The act makes provisions targeted at promoting conservation and improvement of agricultural resources in Botswana. It establishes the Agricultural Resources Board, and defines its composition, powers and functions.

The act gives effect to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), which Botswana is a party to. It provides for the establishment, control and management of national parks and game reserves, for the conservation and management of wildlife in the country. It makes declarations for the specification of national parks and their control. It expressly highlights the acts that are prohibited in national parks and associated regulations.

The order establishes a land tribunal, specifies the composition of the tribunal, and the procedure for lodging appeals.

The order revokes the Declaration of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (Lung Sickness) Infected Area order of 1995. It outlines the area declared to be infected the lung sickness, and prohibits movement of stock from or to the area, and specified distances within the area

An amendment to section 46 of the Wildlife Conservation and National Parks Act of 1992.

The order revokes the Declaration of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (Lung Sickness) Infected Area (Amendment) order of 1996 (Statutory instrument 1 of 1996). It outlines the area declared to be infected the lung sickness, and prohibits movement of stock from or to the area, and specified distances within the area

The act makes provisions guiding the prevention and control of diseases of animals. It regulates the import, export, and general movement of animals; while stipulating quarantine measures and procedures under certain circumstances. Under the act, animals are categorized as any bull, cow, ox, heifer, calf, sheep, goat, camel, horse, mule, donkey, pig, domestic fowl, and any other vertebrate animal or bird. It also covers any wild carnivore tamed and kept as a pet, guineafowl, pigeon, pea-fowl, dog, cat, and any other creature prescribed as an animal for the purposes of this Act.

The order amends the Tribal Land (Establishment of Land Tribunals) Order of 1995.

The order prohibits activities in the Moshupa Waterworks area related to: new private connections, washing of vehicles by hose pipes, forms of irrigation or watering of gardens, use of water for major construction activities. The order also specifies the opening and closing hours for the waterworks, as well as offences and penalties for contraventions.

It is stipulated that “No person shall remove any natural resource from Council Areas except under and in accordance with the terms and conditions of a removal of permit”. The bye-laws contain an outline of the permit application and issuance procedures.

The order prohibits hunting of animals in the Kwando and Savuti controlled hunting areas. Concession holders are allowed hunting in these areas only with permission from appropriate administrative authorities.

The act establishes the Botswana Meat Commission, to engage in the business of purchasing, slaughtering, preparation, and sale of products obtained of cattles. The commission is also charged with the promotion of interests of the livestock producing industry of Botswana.

The regulations pertain to the open season and general conducts associated with the Nxai Pan National Parks. It is stipulated that the national park shall be opened throughout the year.

The regulations pertain to the grading specifications for carcasses of beef, mutton, lamb, and goat meat. The regulations allow for seven grades of beef, and four grades each of mutton, lamb, and goat meat. Provisions for appeals against grading is also contained in the regulations.

The act relates to processes associated with the sighting of, and management of locusts in Botswana. It highlights the duty of land occupiers to notifying authorities of locusts, steps to destroy locusts or eggs, and associated duties of land occupiers.
