The procedures are to guide forest officers responsible for preparing and implementing forest resource plans.

The act provides for the control of artificial insemination of animals. It stipulates that a person shall not collect or sell semen from an animal except under the provisions of the act.

The trade policy aligns with Ghana’s long-term strategic vision of achieving middle-income status by 2012 and becoming a leading agro-industrial country in Africa. The policy clearly provides guidelines for the implementation of Government’s domestic and international trade agenda. It pushes to integrate private sector players by facilitating a stable policy environment to ensure effective and certain operations. It leverages on trade policy instruments across the thematic areas: multilateral trade, creating a fair and transparent import-export regime facilitating trade, enhancing production capacity for domestic and export markets, domestic trade and distribution, consumer protection and fair trade, and protection of intellectual property rights.

The act establishes the Minerals Commission, providing for its composition and functions as it relates to the management of minerals. The Commission is broadly expected to regulate and manage the utilization of mineral resources and coordinate national policies in relation to them.

The act establishes and regulates the local government system in accordance with the Constitution. The act stipulates that existing districts shall continue as districts, and new districts may be declared by the President by executive instrument. The District Assemblies shall be responsible for local government and may, among other things, control local development, land allocation, and water resources.

The GASIP prioritises private sector led pro-poor agricultural value chain development. It aims to provide the necessary framework for long-term engagements towards scaling up investments. The GASIP is developed to contribute to the achievement of Ghana’s Medium Term Agriculture Sector Investment Programme (METASIP). GASIP emphasizes on 4 strategic axes: linking smallholder farmers to agribusinesses; nationwide scaling up of investment; promoting climate change resilience approaches; and knowledge management, and integration of interventions.

The Government of Ghana recognizes the importance of safe potable water to public health. The framework is based on an assessment of the status of drinking water quality and the way it is managed. It seeks to guide water supply services and agencies on management of potable water and public health protection. It covers all aspects of water supply and also addresses the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders.

The policy follows from the priority placed on environmental sanitation, and the establishment of health standards. It contains crucial directives to guide the attainment of the objectives of the policy; establishment of the National Environmental Policy Coordinating Council, charged with expiditing the implementation process.

The act stipulates that the term of lease and freehold interest as granted by Government by agreement to Ghana Rubber Estates and Firestone Ghana Limited respectively shall remain valid, despite laws, decrees, or regulations to the contrary.

The Law regulates the exploration, development, and production of petroleum in Ghana. It stipulates the duties and rights of persons involved in such exploration, development or production. Without prejudice to rights granted or acquired in this law or any other laws; no person, except the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation shall engage in the exploration or production of petroleum.

The regulations do not apply to imports or exports of controlled substances
or products that are intended to be used for medical purposes as may be prescribed by law”. It clearly states that no person shall engage in trading (import and export) of controlled substances, as listed in the appropriate schedules without a permit issued by the necessary bodies and persons.

The act provides for the sole exporters by land of timber and timber products. It states that no person, other than the Ghana Timber Marketing Board, shall export overland timber, or any of the timber products specified in the Act. It also specifies that only the board or any person authorised in writing by the board shall export by sea or air, timber or any of the timber products specified in the act.

This represents the medium term national development policy framework of the GSGDA II. It builds on the GSGDA I and contains a set of policy objectives to guide implementation of government goals at sector and district levels. The priority policies are premised on the following thematic areas: macroeconomic stability; competitiveness of Ghana’s private sector; accelerated agriculture modernisation and sustainable natural resource management; oil and gas development; infrastructure and human settlements development; human development; productivity and employment; and transparent, responsive and accountable governance.

Protection under this Act is available regardless of whether a geographical indication is registered; and against a geographical indication which, although literally true as to the territory, region or locality in which the goods originate, falsely represents to the public that the goods originate in another territory. Indications contrary to moral, indications that have fallen into disuse are excluded from protection.

This act aims to ensure safe handling and overall management of genetically modified organisms that may have adverse effects on general health and environment.The act does not apply to genetically modified organisms that are pharmaceuticals. The act also does not repeal any other act.

The policy acts as a comprehensive guideline towards addressing employment issues in Ghana. The policy prioritises vulnerable groups, youth, women and persons with disability (PWDs). It aims to integrate approaches in relation to: entrepreneurial development, private sector competitiveness, linking agriculture to the other sector of the economy, research and innovation, vocational and technical skills development, productivity improvement, harnessing opportunities in labour migration and the green economy.

The Act concerns the removal of abandoned property including trees, timber of logs, and scrap metals. It confers powers to authorized officers for removal or ordering a removal of an abandoned property.

The development plan notes the contribution of the sector to the economy and livelihood of Ghanaian citizens. It acknowledges the underdevelopment of the value chain. The development plan is conceived as the implementation plan for the Republic of Ghana Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy.

The revised environmental sanitation policy sets the gaze of the government on attaining the goals enshrined in the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). It seeks to address the challenges and deficiencies of the 1999 policy. The revised policy broadens the ‘polluter-pays’ concept through legislation, as a means to raise finance for environmental sanitation. It places emphasis on waste data collection for research and development, and strengthening the capacity of environmental actors, among others.

The Act establishes and incorporates the Grains Development Authority with the broad objective of multiplying and supplying improved seed varieties.
