This policy is formulated following the adoption of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) targets to which all SADC Member States are formally committed. . Therefore the SADC Regional Water Policy guides SADC to achieve the MDG and WSSD water-related targets of increasing access to water and sanitation, reduction of poverty, increasing food security and improving environmental sustainability, which all has a significant impact on water resources management at national and regional level. These targets are going to be achieved, through integrated development of key sectors including agriculture, infrastructure (including transport, and water resources), human resources, economic and corporate governance, and regional integration.
