This is a parliamentary Act to consolidate and amend the law to make provision for the registration of medical practitioners and dentists and for purposes connected therewith and incidental thereto.

This parliamentary Act provides for securing and maintaining health. It prescribes the establishment of a district health management board in each district which shall be charged with responsibility of overseeing the running of government health institutions in that district.

The national nutrition action plan 2012-2017 (NNAP) is guided by the food and nutrition security policy (FNSP, 2012) and food and nutrition security strategy (FSNS, draft 2008). Its purpose is to provide a framework for coordinating implementation of nutrition interventions by the government and nutrition stakeholders for maximum impact at all levels. It deals with the challenges facing monitoring and evaluation of nutrition activities in Kenya by providing information and a robust evaluation of programme effects on the population.

The introductory chapter of this document defines antimicrobial agents as medicines used in humans, animals and plants for both prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. Antimicrobial resistance occurs when disease causing microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites are no longer responsive to previously effective antimicrobial agents. This document therefore addresses the background of antimicrobial resistance in Kenya, the situation analysis and proposes interventions.

This document summarises the progress made in Kenya in overall population health status, investment made in health, outcomes from the implementation of interventions under the previous policy period. It also outlines the values and principles which all state organs and officers are expected to employ in the delivery of services.

This parliamentary Act provides for the implementation of the united nations educational, scientific and cultural organization convention against doping in sport; the regulation of sporting activities free from the use of prohibited substances and methods in order to protect the health of athletes; the establishment and management of the anti-doping agency and to provide for the agency’s powers, functions and management and for connected purposes.

This policy emphasizes the systematic collection of data on wastes from all sectors of the economy to support research and development to meet the challenges of managing wastes associated with Kenya’s growing economy, rapid urbanization and the rapidly changing lifestyles. The policy supports building of international, national, county and community partnerships with the private sector and civil society through effective public sector facilitation, coordination and investment.

This parliamentary Act provides for appropriate marketing and distribution of breast milk substitutes; provides for safe and adequate nutrition for infants through the promotion of breastfeeding and proper use of breast milk substitutes, where necessary, and for connected purposes. It establishes a committee (national committee on infant and young child feeding) to advise the cabinet secretary on the policy to be adopted in relation to infant and young child nutrition. Part III of this document prescribes the advertisement, promotion, labelling of packages and educational and informational materials.

This parliamentary Act provides for the prevention, treatment and control of cancer and for connected purposes. This Act is designed to promote public awareness about the causes, consequences, means of prevention and control of cancer. It also establishes the national cancer institute of Kenya.

This parliamentary Act provides for the training, registration and licensing of clinical officers; to regulate their practice; to provide for the establishment, powers and functions of the clinical officers council of Kenya and for connected purposes. It establishes the clinical officers council of Kenya to advise the government on policy matters relating to clinical medicine of the training and professional practice of clinical officers in Kenya.

This parliamentary Act provides for the establishment of the Kenya medical supplies authority and for connected purposes. It establishes an authority known as the Kenya medical supplies authority to procure, warehouse and distribute drugs and medical supplies for prescribed public health programmes, the national strategic stock reserve, prescribed essential health packages and national referral hospitals.

This parliamentary Act establishes the Kenya medical training college as a self-governing institution and to provide for its government, control and management and for connected purposes. It clearly states that admission to the college as candidates for diplomas, certificates or other awards shall be open to all persons accepted as being qualified by the academic board, without distinction of race, tribe, place of origin or residence or other local connections, political opinion, colour, creed or sex; and no barrier based on any such distinction shall be imposed upon any person as a condition of his becoming, or continuing to be a lecturer, graduate, or student of the college, or of his holding office in the college, nor shall any preference be given to, or advantage be withheld from, any person on the grounds of any such distinction.

This parliamentary Act provides for the incorporation of the Kenya Red Cross society and for matters incidental thereto and connected therewith. It establishes and constitutes the Kenya Red Cross society. The overall objective of the society is to furnish volunteer aid to the sick and wounded in time of war and to non-belligerents and to prisoners of war and civilian sufferers from the effects of war.

This is a parliamentary Act to regulate the practice of anatomy. Regulation 3 provides for the licensing of practice of anatomy. It states that the minister may grant a licence to practise anatomy in an approved school of anatomy under some conditions outlined in this document.

This parliamentary Act provides for the regulation of the production, sale and consumption of alcoholic drinks, to repeal the Chang’aa prohibition Act, the Liquor Licensing Act and for connected purposes. It is designed with an overall objective to protect the health of the individual in the light of the dangers of excessive consumption of alcoholic drinks.

This parliamentary Act provides for matters relating to the diseases of animals. It defines the director’s power to declare areas infected, prohibit importation of animals. It also provides for the disposal of carcass of slaughtered animal and indemnity and payment of compensation.

Kenya does not have a national occupational safety and health policy. This has led to uncoordinated implementation of occupational safety and health programmes and duplication of efforts in implementing such programmes. Therefore, this policy was designed with the main objective to establish national occupational safety and health systems and programmes geared towards the improvement of the work environment. The policy seeks to reduce the number of work-related accidents and diseases, and equitably provide compensation and rehabilitation to those injured at work or who contract occupational diseases

This Report provides an overview of the health sector’s performance, achievements, key priorities and the resource requirements for the period 2018/19 – 2020/21. It provides the medium-term priorities and financial plan for the medium-term entrepreneur framework period 2018/19- 2020/21 and also identifies challenges faced by the health sector.

This strategic plan was designed not only to ensure equitable access to quality health care but also to reduce by half the neonatal and maternal death and to reduce by at least 25% of time spent in ill health. The plan provides the overview of health strategic direction, health investment areas, resource requirement for Kenya health sector strategic and investment plan implementation, implementation framework and monitoring and evaluation framework.

The plan which is in alignment with key developmental agendas provides a framework for implementation of strategies aimed at improving the health status of Kenyans. The document also presents the progress in implementation of flagship projects, emerging issues and challenges, health sector programmes for 2013-2017 and legal framework.
