The Government of Rwanda intends to develop a comprehensive policy and a strategic masterplan for the tourism sector. Spurred by an increase in tourism, this policy aims to coordinate and control all activities of the sector to consolidate on existing gains and improve revenues accruable from an efficient tourism sector.

This document aims to “review and rearticulate” the policy strategies regarding the trade sector. This is in response to changes in the political, economic, and social engagements of the country. The trade policy also points out the disjointed nature of trade policies in the country. Most objectives, strategies, and targets are scattered in policy documents across sectors. It therefore aims to harmonize all activities and policies as pertained to the trade sector for greater efficiency.

The impact of SMEs on the economy of a country cannot be overemphasized. They serve as the backbone of economies in the world due to their contributions to employment and the economy as a whole. The government of Rwanda, in its vision to attain middle income status recognizes the need to coordinate the affairs of SMEs in the country. This policy therefore seeks to unlock the potential inherent in SMEs to make them more competitive with the ultimate goal of improving their contributions to national development.

The wildlife policy addresses issues relating to crucial areas of the wildlife sector in Rwanda. These issues include sustainability and protection of Rwandan wildlife, absence of clear framework and legislation, wildlife conflict resolution, development of skills in wildlife management among other things. The need to address these issues stems from the quest to sustain Rwandan wildlife in line with their relative importance in preservation of biodiversity and climate stabilization.

This policy document aims to chart the course for the development of made in Rwanda products. It notes the problems the country and its citizens face in terms of its size and geographical location. It seeks to ultimately improve the relatively small industrial sector by effectively developing its value chain to subsequently improve domestic market further and contribute to Rwanda’s long-term visions.

The second edition of the national export strategy aims to improve on the significant strides attained by the first strategy. It identifies the differences in stated targets between the first NES and other key government policies like the vision 2020 and the Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS) II. NES II attempts to address the differences and assess the ability to attain such targets.

The government of Rwanda offers fiscal incentives and serviced lands to companies and industrialists. This government offer aligns with the drive to create a Rwandan free zone. The SEZ targets willing companies and aims to increase foreign direct investments (FDIs) and domestic private sector investment among other objectives. As a revised policy, it pushes to resolve issues raised in previous editions.

This proclamation apply to all person involved in any commercial activity. It was made to secure fair competitive process through the prevention and elimination of anti-competitive and unfair trade practices, and to safeguard the interests of consumers.

This proclamation establishes an autonomous agency (The Ethiopian Export Promotion Agency) with powers and duties to undertake this objective and incorporate the activities of the formerly established Ethiopian Trade Point.
