Amendment of regulations 5 and 6 of the management of white shark cage diving regulations

The act pushes to monitor compliance and provide the technical support with respect to international trade in Rhinoceros (White Rhino and Black Rhino).

Amendment of categories A and B on the residue stockpiles or residue deposits of the waste management activities list.

The act seeks to rationalise acts of parliament by the department of environmental affairs and tourism; it amends some acts, and it extends the application to other areas within South Africa.

The regulations apply to all special nature reserves, national parks, and world heritage sites in South Africa; it also applies to marine protected areas that have been included in a special nature reserve, national park or world heritage site. Among others, it lays out details relating to: biodiversity management and conservation in these areas; use of biological resources of national parks and world heritage sites; access; commercial activities allowed; use of water areas, land, and airspace; bioprospecting; norms and standards; and general prohibitions.

An amendment to the convention on international trade in endangered species
(CITES) regulations of 2010. Alterations center around powers and duties of the management authority, import and export of specimens, issuance of permits and certificates, and fees payable.

The notice operates under the national environmental management: integrated coastal management act of 2008. A “public launch site is defined as a site where a vessel may be launched by members of the public in the coastal zone, but excludes a privately used launch site”. It is directed that the management authority shall list publich launch sites where vessels can be launched, and identify a management body responsible for overseeing the affairs of each site.

The notice designates in the schedules of the environment conservation act of 1989, administrators and local authorities who may issue written authorization for the undertaking of activities in the Outeniqua Sensitive Coastal Area.

“No person shall catch or attempt to catch any Antarctic marine living resources protected by the Convention on the conservation of Antarctic marine living resources, unless authorised by means of a permit issued by the associating minister”.

The regulations implement the alien and invasive species component of the national environmental management: biodiversity act with regards to their control. The minister of environmental affairs shall be the issuing authority for permits related to carrying out restricted activities on aliens and invasive species. Activities termed restricted are highlighted.

The regulations apply to holders under the mineral and petroleum resources development act of 2002. They regulate the method for determining and making financial provision for the costs associated with the management of environmental impacts from prospecting, exploration, mining or production operations through the life of mine and that may become known in the future. Holders must determine and make financial provision for the rehabilitation and management of negative environmental impacts from mining operations.

The integrated coastal management act establishes norms, standards, policies, and plans for an integrated coastal and estuarine management in South Africa. It aims to promote the economic and sustainable conservation of coastal environment, to maintain the natural attributes of coastal landscapes and seascapes.

The regulations are made under the national environmental management: protected areas act of 2003. “No person may undertake any scientific research within the
Marine Protected Area, except on the authority of a scientific research permit issued by the Minister”. The general restrictions within the marine protected area are listed out in the schedules.

The minister, under the marine living resources act of 1998. There is a description of boundaries of marine protected area and stipulations pertaining to the protected areas.

The regulations concern the authorization of activities that may have a detrimental effect on the environment in respect of the Pennington Sensitive Coastal Area and Umtamvuna Sensitive Coastal Area. It outlines the details of the application process for authorization.

The regulations are directed towards the protection and conservation of threatened species, including marine plants and animals; as well as prohibiting specific restricted activities involving listed threatened or protected species. The regulations operate under the biodiversity act of 2004.

The norms and standards apply to species of rhinoceros that are listed as threatened or protected in biodiversity act; they also apply, whether a hunt takes place on privately owned land or state land. The schedules under the norms and standards are to be read alongside the provisions contained in the thereatened or protected species (TOPS) regulations.

The norms and standards determine the requirements for the disposal of waste to landfill as enshrined in the waste classification and management regulations of 2013.

The proclamation designates the Cape Floral Region Protected Areas as World Heritage Sites. The description of the sites, geographical locations, and description of boundaries are outlined.

The regulations prescribe the requirements that should be complied with for pollution prevention plans of greenhouse gases that are declared as priority air pollutants. The requirements are in terms of the section of the air quality act of 2004.
