Tanzania is a sovereign country in East Africa bordering the Indian ocean and eight (8) countries: Kenya, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, and Zambia. The country’s climate varies across the country, temperate on the highlands and tropical along the coast. Also, while the coastal terrain is plain, highlands are common in the south and the north of the country, including Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa.

With a population of approximately 60 million people, Tanzania is the second largest and populous country in Eastern Africa, with the Bantu ethnic group accounting for 95 percent of the country’s population. The official languages of the country are Swahili and English, although Arabic is also widely spoken in Zanzibar. The country adopts a presidential republic system of government which is administratively divided into 31 regions, including Dar es Salaam the country’s capital. The economy of Tanzania is heavily reliant on the agricultural sector, which employs 65 percent of the labor force and the country’s major sources of foreign exchange include Tourism, Gold, Coffee, Cashew Nuts, and Cotton. The major challenges facing Tanzania include the high poverty level, public sector corruption, and increased tension arising from many Zanzibaris’ demands for more autonomy.
